The Ottawa Humane Society’s Volunteer Department is looking for volunteers to help support the health and wellbeing of animals in our care by keeping our kitchen and laundry areas clean, organized, and well-stocked. Volunteers in this role assist with washing and folding laundry, sanitizing dishes and supplies, and maintaining a tidy workspace. If you’re detail-oriented, comfortable working around animals, and enjoy hands-on tasks, this could be a great fit for you!

Kitchen/Laundry Support Volunteer Requirements:

• Comfortable working around animals of all sizes and temperaments
• Able to lift up to 20 pounds
• Comfortable working with cleaning agents and in a physically active role
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision once trained
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow safety protocols

Primary Responsibilities and Tasks:

• Wash, dry, and fold laundry including bedding, towels, and uniforms
• Wash and sanitize dishes, bowls, litter boxes, and other feeding or enrichment items
• Restock cleaning supplies and ensure laundry and kitchen areas are organized
• Follow all cleaning protocols to reduce the risk of cross-contamination

Schedule:

• Shifts are Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday or Sunday from 12 to 3 p.m.
• We kindly ask that volunteers are able to make a consistent and reliable commitment. Minimum 1-year commitment to one consistent 3-hour, weekly shift.
