Increasing Need on Both Ends of the Leash

Two precious kittens at the OHS who need your support.

Right now, there are close to 500 animals in the care of the Ottawa Humane Society, a 20% increase from where we were at this time last year. Not only do more animals need shelter and care, but more families in the community are seeking support to keep their pets. Our wellness clinics have provided for 70% more pets and our pet food bank has provided 20% more food for pet owners in need.

The Ottawa Humane Society relies on our community to provide life-saving care and second chances for Ottawa’s homeless animals. We are extremely thankful that so many people support us with their gifts of time, talents and funds.

Like many charities, the holidays are often when we see the greatest outpouring of support from the community. The postal disruption lifted this week, and I am very hopeful that our supporters who give through the mail will come through in a big way for the animals. As ever, Ottawa’s homeless animals are counting on your support for shelter, care and a well-deserved second chance.

As the snow falls and the temperature drops, I’m reminded of how critical your support is for animals in need. In addition to securing more second chances for homeless animals, you make it possible to run our wellness clinics, pet food banks and education programs for kids. Donor dollars also help us return lost pets home to their families, provide shelter to pets of people going through crisis, and create a safety net for animals of all shapes and sizes in our community. These services are a lifeline not just for animals, but also for the people who love them.

The decision to give up a pet is heartbreaking — pets and people belong together— which is why we are working hard to expand our services that keep pets with their people

If you’re mailing in your donation, it may take some time to arrive, and I will thank you in advance in case we’re not able to send our gratitude back as quickly as usual. You may also consider making a donation online, calling 613-725-3166 ext. 299 or dropping by the OHS at 245 West Hunt Club Road.

Your support will help us care for hundreds of animals this holiday season.

Ottawa is a community that cares, and I am so grateful for everything you do for the animals. Together we are making a difference.
