The Reality of a Shelter on Christmas

The beginning of Hanukkah and Christmas have fallen on the same day this year. Tomorrow will be a great day of celebrations and gathering for many, and at the Ottawa Humane Society, our team will be here for the animals.

I am endlessly grateful for our incredible team — our staff and volunteers who dedicate their time and effort to care for Ottawa’s homeless animals every single day.

Please join me in saying thank you to those who will be walking dogs, filling food bowls, keeping a foster animal in their home and giving essential care and love to the animals who need them most on Dec. 25.

You are a part of this team. Whether adopting an animal in need, donating to help make life-saving care possible or speaking out to make lasting change for the animals, you are helping to build a more humane and compassionate community for all.

I hope tomorrow is merry, bright, and joyful for you and your loved ones. Thank you for always being there for the animals who need you most.

P.S. There are two dogs at the OHS who really need someone. Walter and Billie have been in our care for a collective 400 days. If you know someone who would love to give at least one of these pups the best start to 2025, please send them our way!
