Kittens, Puppies — and Canada Post Strikes

Canada Post and its union are down to the wire, and a strike could begin as early as tomorrow.

If it feels like déjà vu, you’re not alone — in the winter, we saw firsthand how mail delays disrupted the lifeline between our community and the animals who rely on that generosity.

This time, we’re better prepared.

April and her kittens are getting the love, attention and care they need at the OHS.

We planned ahead. We mailed our fundraising letters early. We pivoted many communications online. But even with proactive leadership, a mail strike still matters. Because for many of our supporters, giving by mail is the most familiar — and a trusted — way to help.

Animal intake is up. The timing couldn’t be worse.

Our busiest season of the year has already started. As the weather warms, more pregnant cats, abandoned litters of kittens and puppies, and other vulnerable animals are arriving daily, needing urgent care.

Ottawa, you always step up.

Last week, we asked for 30 volunteers for our Sheltering Animals From Emergencies (SAFE) program. Within days, there was an outpouring of support as volunteers stepped forward.

It’s proof of what we already know:

Ottawa shows up when the animals need us.

That same compassion will get us through this postal disruption and the increased animal population, too. If you usually give by mail — thank you. Your support is vital. But while the mail stops moving, the animals can’t wait.

Here’s how you can continue making a difference, and help animals faster, with no delay:

The mail may stop, but we won’t.

Thanks to you, the animals have a safety net – even in times of uncertainty.

Thank you for being part of this compassionate community.
