A Truly Priceless Gift

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received? Between handmade crafts and cards from my kids, and accessories from my husband that I’ve worn for decades, there are many small things that are very close to my heart.

But standing even above those is a gift I received from the OHS — my dog, Willow. Adopted through the OHS’s concierge program, Willow came into my life when I was fighting a battle with cancer. She was a constant support during one of the most difficult times of my life, and on the other side of treatment, she is still my companion and one of my greatest friends.

Now Willow wasn’t simply given to me; I paid her adoption fee and I showed that I would be a suitable match for her. But even then, she was a gift.

Without the generosity and love of a caring community, Willow would have had nowhere to go.

Without the dedication of staff and volunteers at the OHS, there would have been no one to care for her.

She would have been lost, and so would I.

All that to say, Willow is a gift and so was her second chance at life. Both are gifts made possible by a community that cares, and hers is just one of the many stories that you have made possible.

As the holidays approach, will you give the gift of a second chance to more animals just like Willow? Animals like Mr. Beans, a stray cat who was found lost and alone with a badly injured leg, Isabelle, a five-year-old German shepherd who was hit by a car, and Parker, a sweet dog with a broken tail who was abandoned outside of the OHS, are all counting on you.

Give an animal their second chance and give a family a loving companion.
