Fear Free Training

The OHS is extending registration for the Fear Free Shelter Program to OHS volunteers! This program aims to improve the experiences of animals by educating shelter employees and volunteers like you about animals’ emotional needs. Throughout the course, you will learn key strategies and techniques designed to reduce the negative emotional states that animals commonly experience in a shelter environment.

Emotional states of fear, anxiety and stress negatively impact animal health and animal welfare. They also put staff and volunteer safety at risk and make it harder for the animal to find an adoptive home. The OHS is committed to reducing the negative emotional states experienced by animals, from intake right through to adoptions. All OHS operations staff have completed the Fear Free Shelters core training and now we’re offering it to you.

This program will be launched for volunteers early in the New Year — be on the lookout for instructions on how to sign up!
