Recognizing Your Incredible Efforts
Our annual event to celebrate your commitment to the animals is happening on Thursday, Sept. 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the shelter's education centre. It will be an evening of dinner, speeches, awards and prizes to show our appreciation for your generous contributions.

Without your support, Ottawa's homeless animals wouldn't have a place to receive the care and love they desperately need.

Thank you for stepping up for the animals who need you. We can't wait to celebrate with you on Thursday.

RSVPs are closed, but you're still welcome to walk-in and join the fun!

Help Where it's Needed Most
Right now, there are many rabbits, cats and dogs in our care, and we're finding it hard to keep on top of their laundry and dish cleaning needs!

You're already doing a lot for the animals, but if you're able to do a little more, we need volunteers in our kitchen and laundry room, to help us keep on top of these tasks and make sure our furry friends have clean blankets and dishes.

If you're able to help, reach out to Heather »
OHS volunteers at the Wiggle Waggle Walk and Run
Thank You for Wiggling and Waggling!
The 35th Wiggle Waggle Walk & Run happened on Sunday! A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered to help make it possible and those who came out to show their support. It was a fantastic day and we were thrilled to see so many people who support Ottawa’s homeless animals.

The Many Roles of Volunteers
Ken Turcotte has been volunteering for the animals for more than 10 years. He works on data processing with our fundraising team, helping us recognize and thank our donors, and ensuring their gifts can be put towards the animals.

Ken is the proud parent of a dog named Jake, and says that there is a never a dull moment in his role. He says that the team he works with is fantastic and they make it easy to support the animals.

Thank you, Ken, for your hard work. If you'd like to join Ken and our fabulous fundraising team, find out more on our website!

New Learning Opportunity on Compassion Fatigue and Care Pathways
Thanks to you, the OHS never turns away animals in need, which means we often receive animals who are very sick or injured or who have challenging behaviour needs. As someone who cares, you know that seeing an animal suffer can take a toll on a person. By taking care of ourselves, we can be there for more animals who need us.

To help support our volunteers, we've put together a presentation that explores compassion fatigue and strategies to help yourself when you're feeling overwhelmed.

We'll also take a look at how the OHS makes decisions about animal care.

The free virtual presentations take place Oct. 4 and 11 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Please let us know if you would like to attend this virtual presentation to learn more about compassion fatigue and how the OHS cares for animals!
