As a Bar Service Volunteer at the HOPE Volleyball Charity Tournament, you’ll play a key role in ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for event-goers and be an essential part of a fun and impactful event that raises funds and awareness for the Ottawa Humane Society.

Date and Time:

  • Training & Orientation: Wednesday, July 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Mooney’s Bay.
  • Event Day: Saturday, July 12, 205 2:30 to 7 p.m. at Mooney’s Bay.

Responsibilities and requirements:

Requirements:

  • Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years of age to sell and serve alcoholic beverages.
  • Smart Serve Ontario certification.
  • Comfortable dealing with the public, being in large crowds, and using hand-held technology.

Smart Serve Ontario certification is required to work in a bar. HOPE will pay for Smart Serve training for eligible volunteers. Volunteers who successfully pass the Smart Serve certification training will be reimbursed by HOPE – within 30 days AFTER SummerFest. The process is outlined below:

Steps for reimbursement:

  1. Register and pay for Smart Serve certification training prior to the event. Keep the invoice as proof of registration and payment – https://smartserve.ca/
  2. Complete and PASS certification training prior to the event. Keep a copy of the e-certification.
  3. Complete volunteer shift(s) at HOPE SummerFest. At the end of the shift, you must check out with the Bar Committee.
  4. Complete the reimbursement request form provided by HOPE.
  5. Send the completed form and receipt of proof of payment to info@hopehelps.com.
  6. E-transfer will then be sent to you.
    ** We must receive the completed form no later than 30 days after the SummerFest event.

Primary Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Validate the Age of Majority of patrons before selling alcoholic beverages
  • Verify acceptable Age of Majority Identification and apply “ID” bracelets
  • Serve beer, liquor, and non-alcoholic beverages
  • HOPE has gone 100% cashless for all sales: you will learn, and use “Point of Sales” (POS) hand-held machines for all sales
  • Process payments or refunds
  • The Bar Committee may assign other bar duties

Uniform/Equipment/Food:

  • Name tag
  • Closed-toed shoes (recommended)
  • T-shirt provided by HOPE volleyball
  • Lunch or dinner (depending on shift time)
  • Parking pass for the Volunteer parking lot
  • An entry ballot for our Volunteer Appreciation prize draw.
