Queenie is Spending the Holidays Safe and Warm in Her New Home, Thanks to You |
After she was surrendered to the OHS last spring with a broken hind leg, two pelvic fractures and road rash down to the bone, Queenie has found her happily ever after! Her injuries have healed and she will be spending the holidays in her new forever home.
To recover after she was hit by a car, Queenie spent time in an OHS foster home and visited the OHS regularly for bandage changes, X-rays and checkups. She also underwent physiotherapy and took swimming lessons to help improve her joint strength.
Her new family, Graham and Valerie, will make sure she gets plenty of exercise and will continue her swimming lessons to help further to strengthen her leg, they said.
Queenie is spending the holidays in her new home because of you. A call to our community to help fund her surgery reached its goal in just one day! But Queenie is just one of more than 10,000 animals in the care of the OHS this year. Thanks to you, they will have a chance of finding their happily ever after.

Man Previously Convicted of Animal Cruelty Faces New Charges for Allegedly Beating His Dog
|
A man previously found guilty of abusing his dog, Scruffy, faces new charges after witnesses allege they saw him kick then run over Scruffy with a bike trailer.
Witnesses told OHS investigators they saw Peter Pruchowsky, 59, kick Scruffy then yell and scream at her before running her over. Investigators examined Scruffy at the scene. Amazingly, she was uninjured.
They charged Pruchowsky with two counts of willfully causing pain, suffering and injury. Though unheard of in Canada, if convicted, Pruchowsky faces up to five years in prison and a lifetime ban on animal ownership.
Earlier this year, Pruchowsky was convicted of abusing Scruffy in a 2011 incident. According to Canadian law, animals are considered property and the only way ownership can be taken away is through the courts, said Insp. Miriam Smith, manager of Rescue and Investigation Services. It is up to a judge or justice of the peace to prohibit a person from owning, living with, having the care, custody or control of any animals.
