Thank you Ottawa for participating in the 23rd annual
Iams Wiggle Waggle Walkathon on September 11th, 2011
We raised $185,000 for the animals!
The Ottawa Humane Society (OHS) is celebrating the success of another walkathon today on Riverside Drive, across from the Billings Bridge Shopping Centre. Over 2,000 participants and their companion animals took part in the 23rd annual Iams Wiggle Waggle Walkathon and raised over $185,000 for the animals.
“We’re thrilled to have had one of our largest walkathons ever,” said Bruce Roney, OHS Executive Director. “In addition to being a fun day, it’s also our most important fundraiser of the year and we count on its success to help us care for Ottawa’s animals.” All walkers could choose between 5km or 2km routes. Before and after the Walk, participants were entertained by a host of activities including various contests, demonstrations and exhibits.
All funds raised today will go toward supporting the many ongoing programs and activities at the OHS, including humane education, animal visits, dog walking, adoptions, and foster care. Some of the funds will also go towards the Rescue and Investigation Services program, which rescues sick and injured animals in our community. Although legally mandated to enforce the animal cruelty provisions of the Criminal Code of Canada and the Ontario SPCA Act, the OHS does not receive any government funding or funding from any animal welfare group to perform this essential work.
Congratulations to our top walkers:
- Laura Bateman with $5,752.06
- Angela Crawford with $2,843.22
- Casey Fitzgerald with $2,625
And also congratulations to the top:
- Vet Team: Alta Vista Hot Pistols with $4,473.25
- Community Team: Gowlings with $6,720.95

Thank you to all the walkers, sponsors, volunteers and donors who made the event such a success.
See you next year for our 24th annual Wiggle Waggle Walkathon on Sunday September 9th, 2012.
