About the Ottawa Humane Society
The Ottawa Humane Society is a non-profit, community-based organization and a registered charity. We have a volunteer Board of Directors, drawn from our supporters and the community at large. Since 1888, we have been the leading organization providing a safe haven for sick, injured and homeless animals in Ottawa. For more information, read about the history of the Society.
Each year, the Ottawa Humane Society rescues and cares for more than 11,000 animals in our community. For more about the breadth of our activities, please read our Annual Report.
Our mission is "To work in and with our community to provide leadership in the humane treatment of all animals, to address the causes of animal suffering, to encourage people to take responsibility for their animal companions and to provide care for animals who are neglected, abused, exploited, stray or homeless".
